The UK Film Council US presents a special evening celebrating the three 2005 Oscar® Nominated Short Films from the UK. Screening of the three shorts will begin at 7.30pm. Followed by Q&A with the filmakers, Gary McKendry, Ashvin Kumar and Andrea Arnold. Followed by a reception. The three nominated films are: WASP 23 mins DIR: ANDREA ARNOLD Zoë, a single mum, is broke and her kids are hungry. She bumps into Dave, a bloke she used to fancy, who doesn't know she's a mum. When he asks her out, she lies about having kids and leaves them outside the pub. Nearby, a bin attracts wasps looking for food. LITTLE TERRORIST 15 mins DIR: ASHVIN KUMAR In pursuit of his cricket ball a twelve-year old Pakistani Muslim boy mistakenly crosses the minefield strewn border into India and finds an unusual ally - Bhola, a Hindu school teacher who must find a way of hiding him from Indian soldiers looking for the 'terrorist' who crossed over... EVERYTHING IN THIS COUNTRY MUST 20 mins DIR: GARY MCKENDRY Based on the novella by Colum McCann, a young British soldier in Northern Ireland is involved in an accident that kills a mother and her child. Later, the same soldier helps a farmer and his daughter save their drowning horse.
