   The Reckoning

Set in England at the end of the 14th Century, The Reckoning is a unique historical detective tale where actors use storytelling skill to solve a crime. Paul Bettany (Master and Commander) plays the outlaw priest who takes refuge with a troupe of traveling players led by Willem Dafoe.

In a village overshadowed by the tyrannical rule of a corrupt noble, the actors become embroiled in the scandal surrounding the murder of a young boy. They discover the mute woman accused of the crime is innocent. In the center of the town, the company presents a performance that challenges the power structure and eventually reveals the true criminal. Based on Barry Unsworth's novel Morality Play, The Reckoning is a vital tale of personal redemption. It captures the moment in time when the modern theater was born as a place to tell the truth.
