BAFTA Discussion: Putting Digital at the Heart of Production

Driving audiences to the box office has never been more challenging - or exciting. Movie-goers have more choice than ever before - not only in terms of what to watch, but where and how to watch it. Two out of three movie-goers discover new movies online and for 50% of audiences, their first touchpoint with a film is on their smartphone or tablet. This calls for a very different approach to marketing and creating content where the traditional beats of trailers and posters leading the way are simply no longer enough. Filmmakers, studios, writers, distributors need to think differently to succeed. Both digital marketing and audience insights, in pre-production and production phases, can deliver more innovative ways to connect with - and engage - audiences at the appropriate time, save money and drive success.

In this session, Daniel Heale (CSO of Global Entertainment agency Way To Blue) will share ideas and insights that have helped filmmakers and studios alike set strategy and develop creative that has helped even the most challenging titles to find and land their audience.
