The BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards
 The Britannia Award is BAFTA/LA's highest accolade, a celebration of achievement honoring individuals and companies who have dedicated their careers or corporate missions to
advancing the entertainment arts. The Awards are presented annually at a gala dinner, where peers and colleagues celebrate the work and accomplishments of the distinguished
honorees.
The first Britannia Award was presented to Albert R. "Cubby" Broccoli, pioneer producer of the James Bond films. The Britannia Award for Excellence in Film has been awarded
subsequently to Michael Caine, Peter Ustinov, Martin Scorsese, Anthony Hopkins, Miramax Films' Bob and Harvey Weinstein, Dustin Hoffman, John Travolta, Howard Stringer, the
late Stanley Kubrick (in whose name the film award is now given), Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Hugh Grant, Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Clint Eastwood and
Denzel Washington.
Since the gala's inception, the Britannia Awards ceremony has been expanded to honor the contributions of further individuals. Since 1999, BAFTA/LA
has also honored Aaron Spelling, Tarsem, Angela Lansbury, Sir Howard Stringer, Peter Weir, Helen Mirren, Jim Sheridan, Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Mike Newell,
Ronald Neame, Anthony Minghella, Sidney Poitier, Rachel Weisz, Martin Campbell and Richard Curtis as well as HBO Original Programming, the BBC and New
Line Cinema's Bob Shaye & Michael Lynne.
The Britannia Awards continues the tradition of inviting esteemed individuals to make the presentations. In 1990, Michael Caine received his tribute in the presence of Her
Royal Highness, the Princess Alexandra; in 1993 Martin Scorsese received the Britannia Award from His Royal Highness Prince Edward; and in 2001 Steven Spielberg received the
Stanley Kubrick Award for Excellence in Film from His Royal Highness Prince Andrew. Other recent presenters include Johnny Depp, Cate Blanchett, Halle Berry, Forest Whitaker,
Tim Robbins, Dennis Hopper, Meg Ryan and Robert Zemeckis.
Proceeds from the gala ceremony support BAFTA/LA's ongoing education, outreach and archival projects, as well as raising funds for other chosen charities and organizations.
