The British Academy of Film and Television
Arts/Los Angeles is a Membership Academy organized under the California
Nonprofit Benefit Corporation Law for public and charitable purposes.
The specific purposes for which BAFTA/LA is organized is to promote,
maintain, improve and advance original and creative work among individuals
employed professionally in film and television production and allied
industries; to create and maintain a high standard of membership
qualification; to preserve the heritage of the U.K. film, television,
and allied industries; to encourage and promote research in the arts,
sciences and techniques of film and television production and allied
industries; and to that end to offer screenings, events, meetings,
newsletters, lectures, seminars, and workshops, to co-operate with
educational authorities and organizations to procure the better appreciation
and understanding of film and television, to encourage the educational
aspects of film and television and to encourage the foundation of
educational departments of film and television studies, to print
and publish and to distribute gratuitously or otherwise such books,
papers, pamphlets and periodicals as may from time to time be calculated
to advance knowledge and appreciation of the arts, sciences and techniques
of film and television production and to engage in such other activities
consistent with the specific purposes as BAFTA/LA may decide from
time to time.

COMMITTEE MISSION STATEMENTS
EXECUTIVE
Mission: To ensure that management of BAFTA/LA is consistent with the Bylaws,
Policies and strategic goals of the Academy and to maintain oversight of
the various committees. The Committee is empowered to make decision between
Board meetings, and to allocate financial resources not to exceed $5,000
in any given month. The Executive Committee consists of the Chair, Deputy Chair, Secretary and Treasurer of BAFTA/LA, as elected
by the Board of Directors, along with the Executive Director.
CONSTITUTION
Mission: To maintain and keep current the Bylaws and Policies of BAFTA/LA,
and ensure adherence to the Bylaws and Policies. To monitor the implementation
of Policy, advise where future Policy would benefit the Academy and monitor
the implementation and compliance of all non-profit statutes.
EDUCATION AND OUTREACH
Mission: To develop informative and entertaining programming for the benefit
of the membership and maintain relationships with other professional organizations.
Current programs include: Seminars, Festival Film Awards, Student Film Awards,
Mentoring and Community Outreach Projects, which gives the Academy a positive
community image.
FINANCE AND FUNDRAISING
Mission: To maintain oversight of the Academy's finances. To develop
and administer appropriate and successful financial plans and procedures to
ensure the present and future financial health of the Academy. To support the Academy by raising financial contributions and other
resources through corporate sponsorship programs, foundations and grants.
HERITAGE ARCHIVE
Mission: To create and maintain a series of broadcast quality interviews with
distinguished British members of the film or television industries describing
their careers and achievements. Additionally, interviews will be made of
distinguished Americans with strong British affiliations. This professional
archive is available to the membership and is a resource for scholars and
students of film and television.
INTERACTIVE/NEW MEDIA
Mission: To encourage and support BAFTA/LA Members who are involved in all areas of new media: interactive games, DVD content,
streaming media and online content.
MEMBER SERVICES
Mission: To represent the needs, wishes and ideas of the Members and to act as a bridge of communication and liaison between the Members and the BAFTA/LA Board.
The Committee organizes 'Clubhouse Nights' and other events as a Membership forum and to encourage the exchange of professional expertise and creative
interaction between Members in furtherance of each others' craft. In addition, the committee develops and arranges Member discounts.

MEMBERSHIP
Mission: To review, evaluate and make recommendations to the Board of Directors
on the eligibility of applicants for membership in BAFTA/LA.
NEWCOMERS
Mission: To help UK citizens who have recently relocated to Los Angeles and who are either full-time film or television students, or are working in the
entertainment industry or related fields. The Newcomers program provides mentoring for those participants who desire it, access to BAFTA/LA events and screenings where space
allows, and the chance to network and increase their range of contacts. The program has the goal of promoting successful careers in the entertainment industry for Brits.
PUBLICATIONS
Mission: To ensure that publications in all media, for and on behalf of BAFTA/LA,
which are directed to the members and to the public at large, are accurate
and factual. Publications can include Website, Press Releases, Photographs,
Logos, Trademarks, and Copyright Registrations. On the Website, the committee
is responsible for the editorial content and style, working towards making
the site as member-friendly and useful as possible.
PR
Mission: To work with all committees in raising the profile and branding of
BAFTA/LA, primarily to the Los Angeles entertainment and media community.
REAL ESTATE
To assess the Academy's requirements for a permanent home; to locate a
suitable building; to advise the board on the acquisition of the
building; and to customize the building to meet the Academy's
requirements.
SCREENINGS
Mission: To present a broad and timely selection of appropriate films, with
special emphasis on those either of British origin or with British creative
elements for the primary purpose of BAFTA Awards consideration.
TELEVISION
Mission: To increase and enhance the awareness and impact of British television talent, production and programming. In essence: "Strengthening the 'T' in BAFTA/LA."
BRITANNIA
Mission: To co-ordinate the planning, operation and production of the Academy’s
major fundraiser and to ensure a successful and profitable event.
GARDEN PARTY
Mission: To co-ordinate the planning, operation and production of the event
and ensure its success.
FILM TEA PARTY
Mission: To co-ordinate the planning, operation and production of the event
and acknowledge the Awards’ nominees and the contributions from the
UK film community. To ensure a successful and profitable event.
EMMYS TEA PARTY
Mission: To co-ordinate the planning, operation and production of the event
and acknowledge the nominees and the contributions from the UK and the Commonwealth
to the U.S. television industry. To ensure a successful and profitable event.
